Rotan telah menjadi ikon pengembangan industri Kota Palu melalui penetapan menjadi kompetensi inti industri daerah (KID). Pada sisi yang lain, hingga kini perkembangan industri belum menunjukkan geliat yang kuat, terutama untuk menumbuhkan klaster industri yang tangguh. Peran Akademik-bisnis-government merupakan potensi yang dapat dioptimalkan untuk menjadikan idustri rotan Kota Palu untuk tumbuh dan berkembang di masa depan. Untuk itu, penentuan priotitas respon teknis dalam pengembangan industri rotan menjadi sesuatu yan sangat esensial. IKM akan menjadi tangguh jika memiliki human capital yang kuat, organisational yang mapan dan relational capital yang kuat yang menciptakan sinergi dalam menciptakan lingkungan bisnis yang kuat di masa mendatang.
